The Economy/bailout plan

Well, I don't claim to understand everything that is going on right now and the ramifications it will have, but I do know that I think people should buy stuff they can afford and that banks shouldn't be able to just give money away to whomever they feel like whether or not they can actually pay the payments. I also know that if we are indeed going into another depression, the worst thing we could do as a whole country is go into a panic and pull our money out of the stock markets and our banks. I don't understand why the media is helping to cause panic among the general public. If we have learned anything from the great depression, it was what NOT to do right? Part of me was SO relieved when the bailout plan did not go through. I do not want a socialist government! Is is weird that I think this whole thing isn't such a bad thing because it will force us to look at the road our country was headed on and help us make better fiscal decisions? I guess I may feel differently if I was close to retirement age and it affected me in that way. But the stock market will rebound. i don't know how long it will take, but it will and hopefully because I have time on my side, I will be able to invest to ensure a good retirement for me and Randy. It also makes me grateful to be debt free and live in a home we can afford. (plus, since we have been saving for a van for a while, maybe because of all this, we will be able to get one really cheap.)

anyway, I'm sure some of you are interested in what Dave Ramsey has to say about all this (as was I) so here is a link I got from my sister-in-law Lisa about how he thinks we should fix the problem.

Off to Iceland!

My mother and father-in law came and stayed with us before they left on their mission to Iceland this morning. I love that we live it Utah so we are able to spend a lot of time with them right before they leave. They stayed with us before they went into the MTC and then again for a few days afterword. We are so proud of them and are happy they have chosen to go on another mission. The boys had tons of fun with both of them too! They are going to miss them a lot I am sure as are Randy and I. Good Luck Rick and Eileen. We love you!

Out with the old, in with the New!

Randy has had our desktop computer for over ten years now, and we decided (after it had a blue screen a few weeks ago) that it was time to purchase a new one. I didn't really think it was a big deal that it was so old; after all, it works right? well, boy have I learned a lesson! I can't believe how FAST our new computer is! We bought a new HP Desktop and even though our Internet connection is the same, I can get things done twice as fast as I did before, just downloading these two pictures was done in seconds! I can't believe it. you put your disk in and it pops right up! I usually put the disk in and then have to wait 5 or 10 minutes while it loads onto the computer. And to think I thought this was normal! I can't believe the clarity of the new screen too! it is so nice that we actually watched a movie on it last night while we sat on the couch! It is awesome! The only downside is trying to figure out all the new systems it runs on. I am still learning, but I am sure that I will love it even more once I learn what everything does and how to use it. Don't you love the difference in how just the monitors look! It makes me laugh. I guess the kids will have a place to play computer games until the old one officially dies. Oh and those of you wondering (and I know some of you are) Yes, we paid cash for it! duh do you know us at all?
Oh and David, No, we did not have someone come to install everything and transfer our files to the new computer for us although I'm sure some "friends" would have loved to do it.

Not My Boy!

On Wednesday night, I noticed that Jake was wheezing slightly. I put him to bed, but throughout the night he was coughing and awake and his wheezing was getting much worse. The next morning I took him in to see our pediatrician and they checked his lungs and his pulse oxygen saturation levels. The Doctor said that my little baby boy has asthma and that it could be an infection that caused it to appear or just the weather. his pulse-ox was 88 when we arrived and apparently they like to see it above 90 in order to not go to the hospital for treatment. So while at the doctors office, he received a steroid shot and a breathing treatment on their nebulizer. Then they checked his oxygen level again and it went up to 89. It wasn't looking very good. The doctor sent me home with instructions to nebulize him every four hours with the mask on and come back later that night to check his oxygen again to see if he needed to go to the hospital. It was really hard, because he hated to put the mask on and I just had to wrestle with him for the whole 15 minute treatment to keep him from pulling it off his face. we would end up exhausted after each treatment. We went in later that night, and thank heaven his oxygen was up to 97 so we didn't have to check into the hospital, but he was still wheezing. So it has been four days since this happened and I have to do the breathing treatments for Jake a couple of times a day and give him an oral steroid treatment (which tastes nasty and I have to give him a giant syringe full!) The steroid also has nasty side effects like diarrhea and dizziness being unable to sleep, increased appetite and his limbs could go numb. that's great. I also have to give him an antibiotic (in case it was a bacterial infection that caused the asthma to act up.) My poor baby is starting to eat and be his normal self again, but I am afraid we will have to do this whole thing again in the future.
Here are some pictures I took last night during one of his breathing treatments

Farewell to Ben

Today my little brother Ben goes into the MTC to train for his mission in Spokane Washington. He will be speaking Spanish. He had is "farewell" on Sunday and he gave a really good talk on humility. I am so proud of him and all he has done and what he has chosen to do. He is the best little brother anyone could ask for! Good luck Boot! We will miss you!

Here are some photos of Sunday that I stole from Ali's blog. (yeah, that's right I'm a picture thief!) I love that Dan is wearing Jacob's tie. It looks good right? Me and my siblings

Our whole family looking at Ben. I love Ty's face and Robby showing off his "concealed" weapon! we had a great time with everyone. About 650 people showed up to sacrament meeting, so the house was pretty crowded for the first 5 hours or so, but eventually they left and we got to hangout with our favorite "little" brother.

Playing House For Real

I had an interesting experience on Sunday. It was Jake's first time as an "official" child in nursery. I stayed with him for the entire two hours. He did okay, but he kept looking at me for reassurance every few minutes. Anyway, I was watching two little girls playing "house" together holding baby dolls. (they were all just about 3 years old.) One of them said to the other "Okay, You are the sister and I am going to be the mommy!" Immediately, that little girl got a big scowl on her face and started yelling at the "sister" to "stop doing that!, sit down, NO you can't play right now! etc." She sat down and bossed that poor little girl around shouting the entire time. The "sister" looked completely terrified of the "mom" and didn't play with her for very long. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how HER mom acts around her. So I wondered if Tyler were to be "the mom" what would his actions and words be? Well, today I was talking to him and I got my answer. I asked him nicely if he would please get a certain book for Jacob so I could read it to him. Tyler's reply was "I can't right now, I'm too tired, maybe later okay?" I wonder where he got that from?!? I guess I should to be as helpful to him as I would like him to be for me eh? I probably sound like a broken record to him. It is so sad. I am so tired all the time and there is definitely a delay in doing things for him a lot of the time. My goal this week is to try and be the mom that I would want him to "act out". Who knew I could learn something meaningful from spending two hours (when I wanted to be in the adult class) in the nursery. interesting.

Tyler Says...What do these guys have in common?

Ty: "Mom? do cowboys go potty?"
Me:"Yes, everybody goes potty."
Ty:"I don't think so mom, I've never seen a cowboy go potty."
Me:"Just because you haven't seen someone go potty, that doesn't mean they don't go potty."
Ty:" Well, Cowboys, doctors and Batman DON'T go potty!"
Me:"Why not?"
Ty: They are too busy. If they wear their suits everyday, how are they going to go potty?
Me:"They take off their suit to go potty just like we take off our pants."
Ty:"Well, I don't think I need to do that because I'm just wearing a cowboy vest and not a suit, so I can still go potty. Don't worry mom."
I wasn't really worried...until now.

My Jakey Bakey

Nothing special, I just really like this picture Micah sent me of my dirty boy. He is really cute isn't he?! Even when he is dirty.
