Well, I don't claim to understand everything that is going on right now and the ramifications it will have, but I do know that I think people should buy stuff they can afford and that banks shouldn't be able to just give money away to whomever they feel like whether or not they can actually pay the payments. I also know that if we are indeed going into another depression, the worst thing we could do as a whole country is go into a panic and pull our money out of the stock markets and our banks. I don't understand why the media is helping to cause panic among the general public. If we have learned anything from the great depression, it was what NOT to do right? Part of me was SO relieved when the bailout plan did not go through. I do not want a socialist government! Is is weird that I think this whole thing isn't such a bad thing because it will force us to look at the road our country was headed on and help us make better fiscal decisions? I guess I may feel differently if I was close to retirement age and it affected me in that way. But the stock market will rebound. i don't know how long it will take, but it will and hopefully because I have time on my side, I will be able to invest to ensure a good retirement for me and Randy. It also makes me grateful to be debt free and live in a home we can afford. (plus, since we have been saving for a van for a while, maybe because of all this, we will be able to get one really cheap.)
anyway, I'm sure some of you are interested in what Dave Ramsey has to say about all this (as was I) so here is a link I got from my sister-in-law Lisa about how he thinks we should fix the problem.

I agree. Do not panic and the media is just pushing their agenda. The news this AM said that the bill was defeated by the 68% of Republicans against it and yet how about the 40% of Democrats that voted against it. They are not the issue I guess. I am writing my representatives and telling them to really know the bill and to not just get scared and vote for something that is not what this counrty needs. We need to wake up, the economy is a house of cards and now it might just fall down. We live in a want it, get it world and no one seems to care how they will pay for it later. We will learn to pay first now and I think that is a great idea. If you cannot pay cash for it, you CANNOT AFFORD IT, do not buy it.
I am in a good place with 20 plus years to retirement and with no debt except the house, but I still know we need to wake up and smell the credit disaster we live in. You cannot keep buying on credit and loans and hope somehow one day to beable to pay for them, YOU are ruining your future if you live that way.
You are a goof BTW.
One more thing. You should get a good deal on a van from someone who needs to sell it to pay bills. That is the sad truth in the economy today. Most people cannot afford what they buy. Makes good fire sales for the rest of us. Good luck with the van purchase.
Scary world we are living in right now. I am thankful too that we are debt free and can sleep easier knowing that. I wish the media would spend more time explaining the risks of supporting the "bailout" plan. Alls they say is how it is a must and we must act now or else. I am glad some people are using their heads. The media wants someone to blame and they need to remember who is sitting in congress. It starts with a D and ends in T. Sorry if that offends anyone reading this.
It's me again. I received a comment from westover and she said she emailed me but I never got it. There is no other way for me to contact her. Do you know how I can contact her? You can email me if you want to.
