Randy's Finger Injury

Randy was putting away is compound miter saw and the motor slid down the saw and smashed Randy's middle finger. This isn't my first rodeo with finger injuries, and I knew that Randy could be in shock, so I drove him to the Insta-care to get stitches. Also, I just like to watch things like this. I think it is awesome. Anyway, when we got there, The doctor was all "what did you do?! Why is it so bruised?" She thought he had cut it with something. He informed her that the machine had pinched it so hard it kind of split/exploded. Ouchy. of course, I took pictures all along the way.

Before it got cleaned

Getting it cleaned up
There are a lot of nerve endings in your fingers. It was quite interesting watching Randy get a numbing shot in his finger. It really hurts like the dickens! I'm glad it's not just me who thinks the shot is WAY worse than the injury itself.
 pushing out the excess blood
 stitchy stitchy

 Check out that bruise!

This picture is an apt description of how Randy felt all along the way.
On the plus side we have matching scars now. It matches mine from my incident with the food processor. Same finger, same spot.haha

Snapshot of our life

I'm trying to appreciate these little ones today. I love that they are still young enough to snuggle all together on the couch and share a bowl of popcorn while we watch a movie.

The marriage tester

Now that we have our kitchen table in the dining room, we needed a new light. We found this awesome light fixture at Costco. Lucky for us, we both like the same types of things as far as house design goes.  We decided to install it.

I call this experience a "marriage tester" because installing this bad boy surely was just that. It was way more difficult to put in then we thought it would be and such a hassle to install. Randy got frustrated with me and I him. I wont get into the details, but let's just say, its times like these that it really helps that we love each other. haha.

The thing weighs like fifty pounds. So imagine holding it straight above your head while your arms are shaking and your spouse telling you that if you let go, there will be a giant hole in the ceiling and everything will be ruined. oh yeah, I wasn't going to give details. Any-who, It was long and arduous, but somehow we made it through.
Here are the uneven wires hanging down. we had to let them "relax for a few days to get them just the same lengths.
I love how it turned out, but I never want to install this thing ever again.
so pretty right!? Thanks babe for sticking with me through the "worse" times.

Maximus

We got a dog! I still can hardly believe it myself. Randy has been wanting to get a dog for a number of years and I have always put it off, touting that we would get one someday. So, we had been discussing a dog again, and Randy had heard that the local Petco had some dogs from the humane society that needed to be adopted. We decided we would take the kids and "just look" at the dogs to see and ask questions about what kind of dog might be a good fit for our little family.

When we got there, they only had a handful of dogs. They had two huge dogs (which are a no go for me) and three little dogs. One of the little dogs was completely hideous and the other two were ok looking. The kids immediately fell in love with this dog named Redford. I assume he was named that because of his slightly reddish fur. We asked if we could walk Redford around the store for a while to see if he was well behaved and also to see if he would bother Jacob and his allergies. The kids were in heaven. They had so much fun walking him around the parking lot, petting him, talking to him and wandering around the store with him. We were told he was a Pomeranian mix that recently came from California and that he was about 2 years old. I learned that little dogs in California are often left behind and they are more easily adopted here in Utah, so they send them here when they find them. We literally walked around the store for hours with Redford. I turned to Randy and I said that I thought we should buy the dog. He was completely shocked! He could not believe that I would want to do that. (Side note: I may have been slightly disappointed that I wasn't pregnant this month. I am completely baby hungry and was devastated that we weren't pregnant yet. That probably had a lot to do with wanting a little doggy.) Randy said he was totally fine leaving and coming back another time to look at other dogs, but I wanted this one. Not that I thought he was cute or well behaved, which he is, but because it really just felt right to me. Like he "fit" with us or something. Strange, I know. Jake didn't appear to have any reaction to Redford's hair or anything either, that was good.

So we adopted a rescue dog! On the way home from the pet store, we were talking about his name. Nobody seemed to like the name Redford. So, in the smith's grocery store parking lot, we talked names with the kids. Lily was sorely disappointed that he wasn't a girl dog. While I was throwing out names I mentioned that we could name him "Maximus" like the horse in Lily's favorite movie "Tangled." Everyone loved the idea and agreed that would be his name, but that we would call him "Max" for short.

He has been such a good dog so far. He hasn't had any accidents in the house and when he needs to go outside, he just stands by the door and whines quietly. He is a rescue, so you never know what they have been through or how they will behave, so that makes me a little nervous. The trainer at the store said that he has been using Redford as the example dog in his training show and that he has been the most obedient dog of the rescues this week. So that's something. I hope I don't regret this decision! But for now, we are all just happy to have him be a part of our family! Welcome Maximus!

Selfie Lily

Every time I get on my phone I find about a thousand pictures of Lily. She loves to take selfies as soon as she gets her hands on my phone. Silly girl.

Church Cancelled

I got a phone call this morning from Brother Seljaas in the Bishopric. He called to inform me (because I'm the primary president) that a water line had broken and so half our ward was without water, but more importantly, The church building was without any water. He said I should prepare myself and to let the parents know that should anyone need to use the restroom or anything, they will have to head home. I listened to him for a little bit and then told him that while it is all well and good for the adults to "hold it" for two hours, there is no way that a little 3 year old can tell his/her teacher they have to go to the bathroom, then be taken to their parents, then be taken home without having an accident. It was just not practical to have primary in this case. We definitely NEED bathrooms. Drinking fountains, however, are a luxury we can do without. Bro Seljaas got a little quiet and then said "hum... I didn't think of that. I'll call you back." A few minutes later he called back saying that the bishop had decided not to have the first two hours of church (primary) today and that I should call/text everyone in the primary and my friends to let them know what was going on.
Later that day, when our family arrived at church, brother Leger came up to me and said "Hey, thanks Heather for cancelling church today!" I asked him what he meant and he said that he was in Priesthood executive committee that morning and after I told bro Seljaas what I thought, it was brought up in the meeting and the bishop changed his mind about having any meetings besides sacrament meeting. So...in other words, I had cancelled church! kind of funny. The water was fixed and turned back on later in the day, so there were no ongoing problems.

Skiing with Randy!

Randy took me skiing today. I know what you're thinking: "But Heather, you don't ski? do you?" the short answer is "no." I haven't been skiing for at least 15 years. We headed up to Park City first thing in the morning and rented some skis for both of us. I had forgotten how hard it is to walk in Ski boots! I'm pretty sure I looked a bit more ridiculous than most people do.
We skied for most of the day. I was surprised that it is much like riding a bike. It came right back to me on how to move my body in  order to ski the way I wanted to. Luckily it wasn't too cold either. I skied with my coat open for the whole day. I found out quickly that I hadn't used certain muscles for a very long time so I tired very fast. My legs were burning and screaming at me to stop after just a few runs down the bunny hill. Speaking of screaming, whenever I felt like I was going too fast, I screamed like a little girl! The kids in the ski school probably thought it was hilarious watching this giant grown woman screaming as she (slowly) ventured down the bunny hill.
Also, I'm kind of afraid of heights, so I was a bit terrified every time we used the ski lift. no joke, I was even more tense and fearful on the "rest" we got while heading back up the hill. There was no relaxing for me. I even have sore hands from gripping the poles so tight while I skied. So, while rarely used, I hung onto them for dear life. (I know I'm crazy).
After I couldn't possibly go any longer (my legs couldn't take it anymore) Randy let me sit at the restaurant and he got to go off by himself down the more difficult slopes. I was people watching for a very long time. In fact, I got a little worried when Randy was gone for over an hour. I started to panic a bit; thinking of what I would do if he never came back (that's what happens when you have anxieties and you are hanging out by yourself in an unfamiliar place.) I didn't have keys to the car, I didn't have my cell phone, and I wondered what would happen if Randy got hurt or something. I had left my phone in the car because I am known for losing/breaking/killing cell phones. That's why I don't have any photos.
After an hour and a half, Randy skied into view. Whew, that was  a relief. We had such fun spending the entire day together doing something we both enjoy (he a little more than myself.) I'm just glad that I never fell down and got to see Randy have a ton of fun.
