A Disgustingly Curious Dolphin

There is this dolphin I know. We'll call him Gus. Gus is made out of squishy plastic. He is made for squirting and bath-time fun. Gus came into our home as a Christmas gift for Lily from her Grandma Aird. Not only has Lily loved Gus, but Tyler and Jacob have not been shy to suggest Gus join them in their baths as well. A few days ago, I noticed that Gus was missing. I didn't think much of it, well..because bath toys seem to get lost in the toy box downstairs sometimes. Don't ask me how they get there. Anyway, around the same time Gus went missing, our toilet became clogged. I assumed these two facts were unrelated. I plunged the toilet with our plunger that looks like this:

After the aforementioned plunging, the toiled was still clogged. So I plunged again, this time even harder. It was fruitless. Or should I say..drain-less. I decided to give up after a while and wait for Randy to get home and take a look at it. I put the plunger into our bathtub to clean it out and disinfect it. When I tipped it upside down I noticed that Gus's friend "Clyde" (the crab) was inside the plunger. Huh...Interesting. The poor crab didn't know what he got himself into. Ha. Still, I didn't think much of it. Jake must have gotten a hold of them and put the crab inside.

Our toilet has been clogged or barely draining for about a week. Randy bought a snake thing at the store, but didn't really pull anything out. Today Randy decided to pull the whole toilet off of the floor. When he did, he found Gus hiding in the pipe. Now, I don't know Gus' side of the story, I'm sure he has an amazing adventure to tell his new "friends" in the garbage. I'm sure it is scary, funny and certainly gross. All the aspects of a good story. Maybe he watched "Nemo" and knew all drains lead to the ocean and thought that's where he belonged. Who knows. Well, I have a feeling someone knows...

But they aren't talking.

Ewwww. Our Gus is still fully intact and not down the drain. But everytime I catch Megan flushing the toilet randomly, I worry she's sending something down it that doesn't belong there. When I was about 3 or so I sent my friend's Minnie Mouse down theirs (that's what happens when you multitask--I forgot which hand was holding the toy and which hand was holding the toilet paper)--I was pretty terrified of their Dad after that because of his deep, deep sigh when we told him what happened. Now I understand that sigh all too well :) and apparently you do also!

What a well written, cute story. I guess I will have to start buying things bigger than a toilet hole!

Oh, that's funny, and very sad. One day when we are older we'll have a good time laughing about all the trouble our kids put us through. :)

Someone in Shawn's family used to regularly flush hot wheels down the toilet. The plus side is in a few years, everyone in your home will know how to take a toilet off the floor and replace it. :)

I Love reading and sharing your stories with Steve. They make me laugh so hard. Thanks for sharing. I've probably said it before, but your kids are so cute! I bet they use that to their advantage when they're getting in trouble? :)

I will try this comment again - I wrote: It has been many years since I went through the same experience and I still don't find it something to laugh about. After the arms and hands were aching from much plunging, I bought a snake (a waste of money) and finally had to remove the toilet. I can't think of a more disgusting job and then the cost of a new seal. Our challenge was a deodorant bottle I think came out of the wastebasket next to the toilet - not a good item so close to the toilet. If you can laugh about this years later I will be surprised.

Oh, that is hilarious! Not only the story itself...but the way YOU tell stories. You are hilarious! Love it!

So funny. That Gus is some character. He is naughty too. I would blame Gus because lets face it...your cute kids look innocent! Way to go Randy! I know to call both of you to fix our toilet the next time our bath toys go missing!

Y-U-C-K. But good work finding him!
